Our “Creator of the Month” program lets us spotlight a different writer, artist, colorist, letterer or more each month, allowing you to get a glimpse into what makes them tick. (What’s more, you may ask? As you may know, AWA is venturing into film and TV, so you may just see a director or other movie auteur show up on these pages over time, too!)

What is your name?
My name is Dalibor Talajić ( I dare you to ptonounce my last name).

What is your favorite comic character or fictional character of all time? Why?
Superman!
Always! There’s one particular quality that no other hero possesses: Poetry! There’s just certain poetry to the very idea of Superman. Almost naive innocence and a firm reminder to all of us how much we owe to those kids we all once were. The kids who believed…

Who most influenced you in the world of comics?
Oh, god…
Where to begin…
There’s just to many of all the great ones who’s heights I fear I’ll never reach. Still, I have to emphasize a few names. Bernie Wrightson, Hermann Huppen, late Eddie Biuković and – always – John Buscema.

Who most influenced you outside of the world of comics?
Bruce Lee is probably the most important absent person in my entire life! I obviously loved his movies, but only later I’ve discovered him as a philosopher, a poet… Tremendous human being! Through some really rough times, his wisdom was a guiding beacon of light and hope in the dark.

Do you have a favorite panel/ art from an AWA series you’ve worked on?
Pierrot waving goodbye to the heroin of the story.

What do you want fans to know about you?
I just LOVE Elvis!

If you were a comic book character, would you rather be the hero or the villain?
Villain

What’s your favorite comic book or graphic novel?
BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS by Frank Miller.

What’s your favorite comic book genre?
I don’t have any! As long as the story is great.

Would you rather be invisible or have the ability to fly?
Flying, of course! You kidding?

Do you think you could survive in a zombie apocalypse?
I can put up a fight, but I don’t run very fast.

Do you listen to music while you’re creating?
I listen all sorts of music. All!

What is your favorite song?
Thunderstruck [by AC/DC]! I want it played on my funeral.

What is the best advice you ever got?
“You listen to me now!”
My wife says that… Quite often, I must say.

Dog person

Where is your happy place?
Tribunj! A small place on Croatian coast.

Tell us one of your guilty pleasures.
Ćevapi… I could eat those 24/7.

If you were stranded in an elevator with any 3 people, real or fictional, living or dead, who would you pick?
My wife and my kids are truly my favorite people, but… I believe we could always squeeze Batman in that elevator.

What is your favorite burger?
Whichever you pick for me… Just add avocado.

What is your favorite type of pizza/pizza topping?
Make it huge and make it as hot as possible.

If you could have anything in the world for a last meal, what would it be?
